Consists of a notarized account of the sinking of the schooner Acorn by the schooner Emily off Cleveland Harbor, August 31, 1842. Four handwritten pages, signed by Samuel Starkweather, notary public from Cleveland, Ohio, and attested to by Thomas H. Cobb and Lorenzo D. Burnell, master and first mate of the Acorn, respectively.

The Schooner Acorn sunk in fifteen minutes following a collision with the Schooner Emily in Lake Erie eight miles off Cleveland Harbor on August 31, 1842. The Acorn was bound for Detroit, Michigan, from Buffalo, New York, and the Emily was bound for Buffalo. Survivors from the Acorn were taken aboard the Emily and taken to Cleveland but the ship and its contents were all lost.
